Decorate Your Yard On A Budget
Decorating your yard and patio area doesn't have to be expensive. There are many outdoor decorations that you can buy that will add a lot of color and style for very little money. Here are 10 ideas to decorate your outdoor areas for less than $20.
Roll out the welcome mat
Nothing says "welcome to our home" like a pretty new welcome mat. These handy mats are not only attractive, but they will also help keep dirt from being tracked into your home.
If you have a patio, add an outdoor pillow to your lounge chairs to provide extra color as well as comfort. These come in a wide variety of sizes, colors and styles to match almost any decorating scheme.
You can add a string of inexpensive patio lights for $20 or less. Use a string of colorful lights to create a festive atmosphere, or plain white lights to add a more elegant look. These lights come in styles that resemble small lanterns, or even fun shapes such as butterfiles (some butterfly lights from Target, shown below) or chili peppers.
Hanging flower basket
Garden centers usually sell hanging baskets of flowers for $20 or less. Alternatively, you can create your own hanging baskets by using a hanging pot and your own plants to save even more money.
Potted flowers and pots
Depending on the size of the area you want to decorate, you can purchase flower pots and planting containers in various sizes and add either flowers or garden plants to add a decorative touch to your yard and patio area. Not only are these beautiful, but they can also be useful if you plant herbs and vegetables.
Add a relaxing wind chime to your porch or patio. Try them out in the store before you buy so that you can choose one that has a sound that is pleasing to you. (Shown at right, Woodstock Chimes Moonlight Waves.)
Adding a hummingbird feeder to your back yard is not only decorative, but can add a lot of bird watching enjoyment. These feeders range from the very elaborate to simple plastic feeders. You will be able to choose from a number of models for $20 or less.
Wild bird feeder
Whether you wish to feed songbirds in the summer or cardinals in the winter, adding a wild bird feeder to your yard not only adds an attractive touch and a source of entertainment, but it will also be a kind gesture for the hungry birds in your yard.
Plant a flat of flowers
You can purchase a flat of colorful annual flower plants for $20 or less, especially if you purchase them near the end of spring when they are on sale. One flat of plants can go a long way towards providing a full season of beautiful blooms for your yard.
Fun pink flamingo
For a fun and campy look, add a pink flamingo lawn ornament to your yard. These fun plastic birds are a classic that can easily be found for under $20. If you can't quite bring yourself to put a flamingo in your yard, for $20 or less you should also be able to find many other styles of lawn ornaments to suit your tastes.
