Moving in with your partner for the first time is exciting. When decorating your new shared pad, you want to make sure you create a sensual atmosphere in the bedroom. After all, that is where all the magic happens. Here are some tips from Atlanta-based interior designer Melissa Galt on how to create a perfectly seductive bedroom!

Make the bedroom inviting

Make sure to pick a comfortable bed and soft and silky bed linens. Use layers of texture like a velvet pillow with a satiny pillow as accent or toss in a faux fur throw across the end of the bed.

Add glamour

Accessories are important when it comes to decorating a room. Romantic touches such as sequined pillows, glass lamps and mirrored night stands are great details to include. Adding mirrors to your bedroom will add also add depth.

Banish the exercise equipment

There's nothing as unromantic as a big, bulky treadmill folded up in the middle of your bedroom. The bedroom is a place for lovemaking and relaxation and exercise machines just don't fit into the equation.

Get rid of the home office in the bedroom

Again, the emphasis in the bedroom is on relaxation. Try to never bring your work to bed with you. Focus all your attention on your lover when you're in the bedroom.

Pick the right lighting

Lighting in the bedroom should be soft and filtered since bright lights can detract from the ambience Go for mood lighting and use pink for that rosy glow. Make sure all bulbs are 3-way and dimmable.

Keep music options handy

Be sure to include music options for your sense of sound. Keep your favorite love CDs at your fingertips as soft love music is one of the easiest ways to elevate your mood. Keep distractions such as the television in another room. Use a bedside sound system to play your favorite mood-inducing music.

Don't forget about fragrance

Once you've covered sight, sound, and touch, make sure to cover scent with some potpourri or aromatic candles. Send calming or sensual scents throughout the bedroom and choose a scent that your lover and you both like.

Keep treats nearby

Have your favorite decadent treats handy, maybe a mini box of Godiva chocolates or some such that will be sure to tease. For a late-night indulgence, place strawberries and whipped cream on a small tray next to the bed.

I agree - your bedroom should be y and comfortable and a place just for you and your husband, somewhere you both look forward to being everynight. It's worth spending the money to have a nice room.

To me, candles make a room look really cozy and inviting, as does a fireplace (but how many people actually have a fireplace in their bedroom?). It makes the rooms smell nice and gives it perfect lighting.

I really like all these ideas. It's very important to keep your bedroom a bedroom - not an office or a home gym. I love the fact that our room is simple and cozy, and very inviting. It's a great place to relax with a good book or enjoy a glass of wine with my husband. Thanks for the tips!
