When she's not writing, Claire Gillespie can most often be found wiping snotty noses, picking up Lego, taking photos of her cat or doing headstands.

L.A.-based artist, photographer and baker Christine McConnell's Instagram account is a total treat all year round but she really pushes the envelope every Halloween.

Each October she uses her creative genius to transform her parents' house for Halloween, and she spoke to us about the process.

Admittedly she has pretty good material to start with. This is the house back at the turn of the 20th century. Doesn't it already look like a house from a Hitchcock movie?

This year's transformation was epic. McConnell created huge eyes and teeth out of foam-core insulation board, and it was strictly a solo project. "I did everything on my own, from cutting the boards, painting, installing, lighting and photographing," she told SheKnows. "I spent my childhood helping to restore this house with my parents who taught me all about construction and hard work, so there's not much I'm not willing to try doing."

McConnell's inspiration for this year's design was the movie Monster House. "I'm such a huge fan of Halloween and binge watch every creepy movie imaginable during this time of year," she said.

It took three full days to create the pieces and decorate and then a full day to photograph it, but the end result is totally worth it. "My parents were around most of the time to keep me company, so overall it was a really fun process!" said McConnell.

Can you even imagine how your neighbours would react to having this on their street? "It was a bit of a madhouse once the eyes were up," admitted McConnell. "Tons of people stopping their cars to take pictures, kids dragging their parents down the street to get a closer look. Even a few older neighbours who I've known since I was little, were in awe of it. It's one of my favourite projects that I've done and came out even neater than I had planned. There are no houses in the neighbourhood that are nearly this detailed, most are just decorated with pumpkins and spiderweb type stuff."

McConnell's previous efforts have been nothing short of impressive but we reckon this year's is the best yet.
