Handprint butterfly
Materials:
- Construction paper
- 4 sturdy paper plates
- Craft paint (four colors)
- Markers
- Glitter (optional)
- Craft glue (optional)
- Baby wipes or damp washcloths
Directions:
- On the construction paper, draw a vertical line in the center of the page. This will be the butterfly's thorax/body.
- Pour one color of paint the size of a quarter on each paper plate.
- Gently spread the paint around the center of the plate with your finger.
- Dip your right hand in one color.
- Gently press your right hand on the right side of the line, above the halfway point.
- Clean your hand with a wet wipe or damp washcloth.
- Dip your right hand in another color of paint.
- Gently press your right hand on the right side of the line, below the halfway point.
- Clean your hand with a wet wipe or damp cloth.
- Repeat steps 4 through 9 with your left hand, making the wings on the left side of the body.
- Let dry.
- Draw the antennae and face on the butterfly.
- Decorate the butterfly with markers, glitter and anything else your child wants to use.
Marble hearts
Materials:
- 4 – 6 marbles
- Cardboard box lid (you can also use a deep 4-wall baking dish or cookie sheet)
- Craft paint
- Shallow bowls
- Paper
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Tape
Directions:
- Fold your paper in half, then crease the center.
- With a pencil, draw half of a heart; the crease is the center of the heart.
- With the paper still folded, cut along the pencil marking.
- Open the paper, creasing it in the opposite direction so it lays flat.
- Fold three to four pieces of tape to create double-sided tape.
- Stick the tape to the back of the heart, then to the inside of the cardboard box lid.
- Fill each shallow bowl with one paint color.
- Drop one marble in each bowl, rolling it around to coat it with paint.
- Carefully pick up one marble and carefully place it in the cardboard box lid.
- Shake and tip the cardboard box lid to make the marble roll over the heart in different directions.
- Repeat as many times as you want with as many colors as you want.
Heart garland
Materials:
- 5 pieces of red construction paper
- 5 pieces of pink construction paper
- Yarn
- Single hole punch
- Craft glue
- Glitter
- Markers
- Pencil
- Scissors
Directions:
- Cut each piece of construction paper into four squares.
- Fold each square in half, then crease the center.
- With a pencil, draw half of a heart; the crease is the center of the heart.
- With the paper still folded, cut along the pencil marking.
- Open the paper, creasing it in the opposite direction so it lays flat.
- Decorate each heart, then let dry.
- Punch two holes on each heart; one hole on each side.
- String the yarn through each heart until all the hearts are on the yarn.
- Hang on a wall, mantel or above a doorway.
