Cinnamon and nutmeg bring a festive aroma to your kitchen when mashed into these turnips for a unique and festive alternative to Thanksgiving mashed potatoes!

Kevin's Mashed Turnips

Kevin's Mashed Turnips


3 large yellow turnips
1/2 cup margarine/butter
1 tbsp cinnamon
1/2 tbsp nutmeg


Peel turnips and dice (very hard to cut - have patience). Place in large pot cover with cold water and salt and boil until tender. Drain and mash. Add other ingredients.

This dish can be served immediately or put into a greased casserole dish and heated later.

Note: I would make this ahead of time and heat when ready to serve in the microwave or oven.
Prep time: 45 minutes

Serves 6-8 people

I follow this recipe very closely except that I also add cream (usually 1/2 & 1/2) which mellows the taste. Well received every Thanksgiving by the non-turnip lovers.
