Thanksgiving Side Dishes

Looking for something different at the last minute as a side dish on Thanksgiving. These Southern recipes will add some flavor to your holiday table. Recipes include chunky cheddar smashed potatoes, Southern style greens and a delicious dried fruit relish.

Southern style greens recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 pkg. bacon, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 3 cloves garlic, sliced thin
  • 1 teaspoon red chili flakes
  • 1 bag pre-cut and washed mixed greens
  • 32 ounces canned or boxed chicken stock
  • 1/2 teaspoon cider vinegar
  • 1/2 tablespoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper as needed

Instructions:

In a large pot over medium-high heat, add bacon. Stir and cook until bacon is crisp and remove. Return pot and bacon fat to heat and adjust heat to low. Add garlic and cook for 3 minutes. Then add chili flakes and cook 1 more minute. Add remaining ingredients and bring to a low simmer. Loosely cover and cook until greens are tender. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper, and garnish with crisp bacon.
