Sexy & Simple
Dessert Fondue

Prepare a sweet ending to a sumptuous dinner for two with dessert-style fondue. Melt - and stir up - a warm batch of chocolate, caramel or any sweet gooey treat and dip in marshmallows, chunks of fruit or bites of cake. For the ultimate romantic fondue experience, instead of dipping and feeding yourselves, feed each other. If you want, you can even skip dinner altogether and head straight for dessert.

Classic Milk Chocolate Fondue

Makes 2 servings

Serve with whole strawberries, banana slices, apple wedges, pound cake, marshmallows, graham crackers or chunks of chocolate chip cookie.

Ingredients:
1 cup heavy cream
12 ounces chopped milk chocolate (or dark or semi-sweet)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:
Heat cream over medium-low heat for 2 to 3 minutes. When cream is hot (not boiling) stir in chocolate until melted and smooth. Mix in vanilla. Pour fondue into a fondue pot, if you have one, or pour into a heat-safe bowl set over a sterno (a can of denatured or jellied alcohol that provides heat – look for them at your local supermarket or outdoor or hardware stores), or use a mini slow-cooker.

Variations: Replace vanilla with orange or raspberry liqueur or rum, brandy, amaretto, Bailey's, Kahlua, or another dessert liqueur.

Berrylicious Fondue

Makes 2 servings

Ingredients:
1-1/2 pounds fresh or frozen strawberries, raspberries or mixed berries
1/4 cup granulated sugar
12 ounces chopped dark chocolate

Directions:
1. Puree berries in a food processor or blender until smooth. Pour through a strainer into a pot and add in the sugar and chocolate. Heat until sugar has melted, about 7 minutes.

2. Pour into a fondue pot, a heat-safe bowl set over a sterno (a can of denatured or jellied alcohol that provides heat – look for them at your local supermarket or outdoor or hardware stores), or a mini slow-cooker.

Mascarpone Fondue

Makes 2 servings

Serve with apple or pear slices and bites of pound cake.

Ingredients:
3/4 cup orange liqueur
1 cup mascarpone

Directions:
Bring liqueur to a boil over medium heat until it is slightly reduced. Mix in mascarpone and stir until it boils. Pour in a fondue pot, a heat-safe bowl set over a sterno (a can of denatured or jellied alcohol that provides heat – look for them at your local supermarket or outdoor or hardware stores), or a mini slow-cooker.

Sticky Toffee Fondue

Makes 2 servings

Serve with angle food cake, marshmallows or any fruit.

1/3 cup unsalted butter
1/3 cup granulated sugar

2/3 cup corn syrup
1-1/2 cups heavy cream
3 tablespoons amaretto, rum, or cognac
1/3 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
