Cabbage and other cruciferous vegetables
Known as the cruciforms, cabbage, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, bok choy and cauliflower promote the death of cancer cells and block cancer growth. High in the cancer-fighting substances sulforaphane and indole-3-carbinols, cruciforms can help prevent precancerous cells from developing into malignant tumors. However, don’t overcook or boil away their cancer-combating properties. Instead, steam these crunchy veggies briefly or stir-fry with a little olive oil.
