With these quick (30 minutes or less), calorie-burning workouts, time will no longer be your scapegoat (or your enemy) and you'll find yourself squeezing more time into your schedule for workouts!
Gym workout: Elliptical intervals
This butt-kicking workout uses one of the most popular gym cardio machines, the elliptical. Although running without any resistance or incline for 30 minutes is better than nothing, it will not get you the results you seek. Instead, pump up your elliptical workouts by adding intervals (2 to 3 minutes of high-intensity workouts) to your moderate running to blast more calories and tone your muscles. If you are new to intervals, limit your high-intensity intervals to just one or two minutes to ease yourself in. Just remember, the harder you push yourself, the more calories you will burn and the stronger you will get! To understand the RPE (rate of perceived exertion) level, check out the CDC's RPE Chart.

Intense fitness DVDs for home workouts
The economy is still struggling and one of the first things many families had to cut back on was gym memberships. However, don't think you need to a workout facility to lose weight and get your workout in. Due to the high demand of in-home exercise, there are a number of high-intensity workout DVDs that can burn major calories from the comfort of your own home. No more being embarrassed by fit people at the gym or worrying about your appearance -- plus you'll have more time to focus on your workouts! Below are three top DVDs for a quick, calorie-blasting workout.
Get Ripped 1,000 with Jari Love, $15. This DVD is no joke -- you can burn up to 1,000 calories by completing the entire 70-minute workout. In addition, with absolutely no downtime to catch your breath, you'll be moving nonstop. However, if you work out for just 30 minutes with this DVD, you can still burn more than 350 calories! If you're going to cut the workout in half, be sure to also give yourself time to cool down.
Patrick Goudeau Step Up, $25. If you're looking for an easy-to-follow DVD that will give you amazing results, this one is for you. You can burn up to 710 calories by doing the entire 60-minute video or more than 300 by completing 30 minutes! Goudeau sets up cardio combinations that even the most novices exercisers can follow.
Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30, $15. If you've ever seen Jillian Michaels on TV, you know she's very passionate about what she does. This DVD is no different. You can burn up to 300 calories in one of her 25-minute workouts by doing intervals and circuits of toning exercises like lunges and squats paired with cardio and abs exercises. Like her other DVDs, she doesn't believe in downtime, so you'll be sweating and moving the entire time.
