Best Breast Cancer Websites
In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we thought we would spend some time going beyond pink products and instead focus on where to get the most comprehensive and usable information about the disease. With that in mind, we’ve rounded up some of the best breast cancer awareness and education sites online.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure
Susan G. Komen lost her long battle with breast cancer, but her sister Nancy created a place where her memory and passion for finding a cure would live on. The result is Susan G. Komen for the Cure, an organization that has become the largest source of non-profit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world. The site itself is a wealth of information about breast cancer including a vast education section that covers everything there is to know about the disease. You can also easily find ways to get involved in an event near you, donate or get the latest news about breast cancer.
Pink Ribbon International
Like the other sites listed, Pink Ribbon International offers a myriad of information about breast cancer, along with awareness events and opportunities to donate, but the layout is similar to that of an online magazine – fresh, airy and simple to navigate. Along with the educational information about breast cancer (which covers everything from detection and stages to myths about the disease), this robust site also offers more lifestyle-oriented advice such as fashion and beauty tips. We particularly like the anti-cancer section with comprehensive prevention information in four categories (environment, food, mind, and body).
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
This site, packed with the latest breast cancer information, offers three main sections – patient services (support for those who have been diagnosed), disease information (everything from types of breast cancer to mammograms and screening to early detection) and ways to help (from workplace initiatives to an online shop stocked with products that support breast cancer awareness). You can also easily search for breast cancer awareness events, mammography centers and low cost screening locations near you.
Breastcancer.org is a non-profit organization whose aim is to provide the most up-to-date, reliable and complete information about breast cancer. The focus here really is on breaking down the disease into all of its parts – from symptoms and diagnosis to treatments and side effects to dealing with how breast cancer affects your day-to-day life (nutrition, career, etc.). The site is easy to navigate and also contains a blog, chat rooms and discussion boards to get even more personalized information and advice.
National Breast Cancer Foundation
Find a myriad of tools, tips and information on this helpful and well laid out site. From the basics (signs and symptoms, types, stages, myths) to being able to create a personalized early detection plan to a question and answer section covering a wide range of topics, the National Breast Cancer Foundation offers the latest information in a friendly, easy-to-read format. Their mission is to raise awareness of breast cancer through education and by providing mammograms for women in need. Here you can also donate, keep up-to-date on breast cancer news and find out about campaigns and volunteer opportunities near you.
