These hashtags are must-follows for health-conscious social media junkies

Hashtags aren't just for politics and food porn anymore — there are some seriously useful hashtags out there that are helping us stay fit and reach our health #goals.

If all of the hashtag shenanigans are totally foreign to you, it's actually pretty easy: Just add the hash symbol before a word (or a group of words) in the "search" function on Instagram or Twitter, and a bunch of posts about the topic you're searching will pop up.

Here are some of Instagram's most active health hashtags right now.

#letsmove

For pics of clean eating, running and healthy selfies, this hashtag celebrates movement in all shapes and forms. It has even been used by Michelle Obama.

#fitspo

Fitspo, an abbreviated term combining fitness and inspiration, is the ultimate fitness hashtag and is home to an impressive 40.2 million posts. Think muscles, lycra, weights, sneakers, outdoor exercise and cleavage. Healthy food snaps are in abundance as well. Popular variations include #fitspiration and #fitstagram.

#paleo

Almost 10 million images of healthy food are tagged with #paleo and its derivatives, like #paleodiet and #paleolife. While it's questionable whether all of the food is actually paleo, this tag makes for inspirational viewing and can help to provide you with innovative choices for healthy dinners.

#glutenfree

Another extremely popular hashtag used by healthy foodstagrammers, #glutenfree is a place where raw cacao balls abound. If you are required to be on a serious gluten-free diet, you'll definitely find some helpful meal ideas here.

#fittip

While it has a mere 91,627 posts, #fittip is a helpful collection of inspirational quotes and before/after shots — so take a gander at this hashtag if you're specifically searching for fitness advice and motivational words to get you #fitspired.

#iquitsugar

A hashtag coined by celebrity blogger and author, Sarah Wilson, #iquitsugar is full of delicious recipe ideas to satisfy your sugar-starved sweet tooth. You'll also find raw and vegan food ideas here, too — and it's a great tag to check out if you battle autoimmune issues. Check out #iqs for more healthy dessert ideas.

#healthyfoodporn

With over 1 million snaps of deliciously-healthy food, #healthyfoodporn — as the name suggests — curates mouthwatering images of healthy dishes. Complete with art direction and Insta-filters, of course.

Expect to see images of green juices, lemon-infused water, fresh fruits and vegetables and detox diary countdowns as Instagrammers document their hardworking efforts to detoxify their bodies through diet.
