Making healthier choices

From SheKnows UK
On your quest to eat healthier or lose weight, how often have you skipped a substantial breakfast to grab a quick and convenient energy bar? Or, how often do you wonder if that warmed up Weight Watchers meal is actually healthier than frequenting the McDonald's drive-thru? You are faced with seemingly endless food choices every day. You are also faced with a whirlwind of myths and contradictions about, "health foods" that leave you unsure of what foods you should eat. The best way to choose genuinely healthier foods is to become more food aware. Here are some basics every health-conscious eater should know.

Making healthier choicesHealthy snack choices

When either the mid-morning or mid-afternoon stomach grumbles begin, avoid the vending machine chips, candy bars and packages of cookies. Instead, opt for healthy snacks like fruit or nuts. Fresh items, instead of processed foods, are always a good choice as you can bypass the added chemicals and preservatives of processed foods.

Nancy Tan, a 22-year-old advertising account executive, is always kept busy with trying to please clients and meeting hectic deadlines. She enjoys snacking on cherry tomatoes and fruit throughout the day. She also drinks plenty of water in order to keep herself hydrated.

"[Healthy snacks and water] really give me the extra lift I need…and constantly going to the restroom keeps me on my toes, too," says Tan.

Campbell suggests snacking on things like raisins, baby carrots or apples while you are on the go. Snacking on healthy foods between meals can ensure your blood sugar stays level, prevents fatigue and, more crucially, prevents binge eating.
