When we take care of ourselves by eating nutrient-dense, healing foods and pay attention to our minds and bodies, we create inner balance. In the new year, make it your daily intention to focus on the following three areas: 1) diet + nutrition, 2) exercise + body, 3) spirituality + mind. Giving positive attention to these three facets and staying devoted to your intentions will make all the difference in your inner and outer beauty in the new year.
We’ve all heard the saying “you are what you eat,” but in the new year, really be mindful of this fact. Everything you ingest in your body either fuels you or drains you essentially, and it’s time to start giving ourselves the best nutrition possible to thrive and glow. Start your day with a warm lemon turmeric tonic— 1 cup of water, 1 tsp turmeric, half a lemon, 1 tsp of fresh ginger, and 1 tsp of honey. This drink will give your body a potent dose of vitamin c, it's anti-oxidant benefits, and set glowing tone for the rest of the day. Drink soups, broths, and comforting foods that are full of healthy proteins and easy on the body. Eat healthy fats, whole grains, and nourishing proteins that will give you energy and vibrancy from the inside out.
A key component to a healthy glow is taking care of our physical bodies. Every experience that we have is stored in our bodies as energy- it is important to clear and release anything stagnant that eventually manifests into pain and tightness. We can accomplish this by developing a yoga/breathing practice. Stretching out and breathing into any tightness with the intention of letting go of what’s not serving us can free up a lot of space in our bodies and our minds. Breathe in space, breathe out tension. It’s also important to incorporate cardio into your routine to get your heart rate up and get the blood flowing. This type of exercise creates endorphins making you feel your best. It doesn’t matter what you do as long as you move your body… dance, walk, run, hike, swim, jumprope, surf… HAVE FUN! You will glow brightest if you actually enjoy the movement, rather than view it as punishment.
Your state of mind is everything at the end of the day. Your headspace determines the way you see the world., so it is infinitely important to make sure you keep your lens sharpened. There are a few things that we personally do to nurture our mental state. Make daily gratitude lists to cultivate a sense of appreciation and awareness for the blessings you have. This will 100% make you a happier person and attract more glow into your life. The more you say “thank you”, the more you receive. Schedule any amount of time into your daily routine to sit quietly and breathe. Watch your breath without judgement and if the mind wanders, acknowledge it and then bring your awareness back to your breath. This practice helps you to be more mindful. You will feel energized and clear like you’ve hit the “re-start” button.
