The right way to lose weight quickly is by strategically using foods rich in micronutrients that enhance your rate of burn or your metabolism, which is your body's ability to burn through food and fat and convert it to fuel.
Losing weight fast by starving yourself is not only a recipe for disaster and future rapid weight gain, but also a very unhealthy venture as it causes the body to secrete stress hormones and adapt to the crisis of starvation.
What really matters, much more than the number of theoretical "calories" you do or don't consume, is how you burn the food or otherwise distribute the energy once it is inside the body. When you eat real food, it is full of nutrients and fiber. Everything in it can be used for some form of good by the body. So appreciate and respect what nutrients have to offer and the potential they hold for you. No matter what you eat, make sure it's real food. And stay away from these metabolism-killing foods most of the time — wheat, corn, dairy, soy, refined sugar, caffeine, alcohol, dried fruit, fruit juice, artificial sweetener and fat-free "diet" foods.
Some of my clients lose up to 20 pounds in 28 days. Five to six pounds per week is typically on the high end of rapid weight loss when done strategically and with only the healthiest foods possible.
These kinds of numbers can not only be achieved but maintained for lifelong health benefits. Changing the way you eat will mobilize and facilitate healthy hormonal responses to stress, boost the metabolism and maximize the body's efficient and balanced distribution of fat, water and muscle. The better you care for yourself and the healthier your metabolism, the more reliable your body's systems will be for detoxifying, eliminating, burning fat, maintaining a healthy body weight, finding healthy hormone balance and preventing disease.
It's also important to always drink at least half your body weight in ounces of water. As you lose fat, you detoxify fat-soluble toxins, so dilution is the solution for pollution. This means water is critical to helping you flush those toxins out of your body.
The diet industry will have you believe that spot loss can't be done. But I have seen it happen time and time again in my clinic. If you can gain weight in one area, you can also lose weight in one area. Not only is it possible, but it's easy with the right tools and food.
Belly fat is probably the most common area where people wish they could lose weight. Digestive issues can be a culprit behind the "belly pooch" and the muffin top. When the mucosal lining of your GI tract isn't happy, inflammation is the result. Inflammation can manifest as belly bloat. I use alkalizing vegetables, cultured foods, cooked fruits and targeted healthy fats, like coconut and walnuts, to streamline the body's elimination of wastes and toxins.
Hormonal issues can also play a part in the accumulation of belly fat. You've probably heard of cortisol, sometimes called the "belly fat hormone." Cortisol balance is highly sensitive to stress, which can increase cortisol production and lead to more belly fat. Use whole grains and natural sugars to soothe the adrenal glands that regulate cortisol release along with other hormones. And when the adrenals have been soothed and cortisol levels have dropped, your body is ready to release fat cells from those trouble spots — the butt, hips, thighs and belly.
The upside of losing weight quickly is that you'll stay motivated. Our bodies have a tendency to build muscle efficiently when they're fed foods that are micronutrient-dense. These foods will give your body a more taut appearance and you'll have less saggy skin. Not only will you be feeling great, you'll be looking great, too.
The biggest downside that I tell my clients to be mindful of in losing weight quickly is that they must change their emotional connection to food. Often, those who experience rapid weight loss are taken aback by the changes in their bodies. It starts with one fundamental change: You have to make nice with food. Many chronic dieters see or taste something delicious and their first thought is "No!" or guilt. That's not how the body is supposed to react to food. When you repair your metabolism by eating great food, you won't ever have to worry about calories or guilt or anything food-related ever again.
With 2015 upon us, there is no time like the present to build a better relationship with food. You'll be more relaxed, happier and the food you do eat, you'll eat with control and pleasure.
