Break a sweat at home

You no longer need to head to the gym to gain access to the latest, greatest fitness experiences — technology has changed the game. Instead of squeezing into packed studios or paying hundreds of dollars for coveted spots in the most sought after classes, you can now log on and tune in from the comfort of your living room.

Internet and DVD-based fitness classes continue to grow by leaps and bounds, and as technology continues to improve, the experiences keep getting better. While there are thousands of options to choose from, these are a few of our favorite home-based fitness classes.

1

Zumba

When I used to manage fitness centers, our Zumba classes were so popular that we had to move them out of the aerobics studio and into the recreation gym. There were days when we had well over 100 people attending a single Zumba class. The fact is, Zumba is fun, it's sexy and it allows you to lose yourself in the music while breaking a serious sweat. And the best news is that Zumba started as a home fitness DVD craze and it's still going strong as a popular home workout. There are lots of ways to enjoy a class at home — grab the latest DVD or pick up a Zumba game designed for your gaming system.

2

Pound

Harness your inner rock diva and rock out for your next workout! Pound is a hard-hitting, drumming-inspired routine that's been taking a tour throughout the country to all the hottest gyms, and it's now available for your personal concert experience in the comfort of your home. The "Backstage Pass" costs $10 a month and gives you access to new, weekly online workout videos, special recipes and insider tips for getting the most out of your drumming workout.

3

Kettlebell Kickboxing Scorcher Series

Cardio combined with high intensity interval strength training is just about the fastest way to see results, and the Kettlebell Kickboxing Scorcher Series guarantees you'll burn between 800 and 1,000 calories in a 60-minute session. It won't be easy, but it will be fun and garner you the results you want to achieve.

4

Dream Body Workout Series

For all you barre, Pilates and yoga enthusiasts looking to ramp things up to the next level, the Dream Body Workout Series is a five-DVD set based on "fusion fitness" that was developed by a Kansas City workout studio by the same name. The idea is that you're incorporating a little bit of everything into your workout and then turning things up a notch with plyometric jumping exercises and hard-hitting high intensity intervals. The result is a fat-blasting experience that's never boring... or easy.

5

T25

We like any workout that can get you sweaty and exhausted in just 25 minutes. The T25 system from Beachbody trainer Shaun T is a hard-hitting, fast-paced workout designed to get you major results in just 25 minutes a day. While you should probably add some extra warm-up and stretching exercises to these routines, overall the system is fantastic and the perfect solution for the busy, on-the-go woman.
