Homemade Croutons

Makes 2 cups

Ingredients:

  • 4 (3/4-inch) slices whole grain bread, cut into cubes

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1 tablespoon vegan margarine

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1-1/2 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

  2. Spread bread cubes in a single layer on a large rimmed baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until crispy and lightly browned.

  3. Meanwhile, heat oil and margarine in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

  4. Transfer dried cubes to the skillet and toss to coat. Continue to cook, tossing often, until dried cubes become crunchy.

  5. Sprinkle in garlic powder and Italian seasoning, tossing to coat, and transfer to a plate lined with a paper towel to cool.

  6. Serve warm or let cool completely and store in an airtight container.
