4 Low-calorie ways to add crunch to your lunch

1. Radish slices

When I'm craving crunch at lunch, I layer chips in with my sandwich fillings so I get a crunch with every bite. However, if chips are absent from my pantry or when I need more fresh veggies in my day, I fill my sandwich with radish slices. Crisp, refreshing, spicy, and only a few calories per large radish.

2. Cucumber chips

Love chips and dip with your midday meal? Cut half a cucumber (leave the peel on) into 1/2-inch slices and partner with a creamy tofu-based dressing or hummus for a healthier vegan side dish. A one-half cup serving of cucumber slices is only 10 calories, the same number of calories in a single potato chip.

3. Crispy baked carrots

Thinly slice carrots crosswise, toss with a little olive oil, and bake for 25 minutes in a 375 degree F. oven or until crisp and just browned. One medium carrot is only 25 calories.

4. Flavored popcorn

Kick up plain popcorn with spices, fresh herbs, flavored oils (such as truffle oil, coconut oil, or infused oils), or nutritional yeast. Lightly spray popcorn with oil and toss with your favorite flavorful ingredients. At 30 calories per cup (airpopped popcorn), you get gourmet taste while satisfying your crunch craving.
