Laughter is infectious

Isn't it hard to stifle a giggle or at the very least a smile when you see or hear someone laughing? Laughter is infectious and, best yet, it brings people closer together. In troubled times, bringing mirth to the situation can help brighten moods, lighten spirits, and provide emotional strength to find a solution to the problem. Laughing together helps us feel genuine support from eachother.

Laughter is a stress reliever

Being bound up with stress is not only emotionally uncomfortable, it takes a damaging toll on our bodies, too. Laughing can help lower cortisol and relieve tension and stress at the moment we laugh from up to an hour or more afterward.

Laughter is good exercise

When is the last time you laughed so hard, your abdominal muscles hurt? We should all look for ways to get this type of core workout. Not only does laughter mimic exercise in engaging our muscles, it also provides a low intensity cardio workout. Good for our muscles and good for our heart, laughter also causes a release in endorphins, those lovely feel-good hormones that are released after conventional exercise (think: runner's high) and act as natural pain relievers.
