Dust off that ice cream maker and put it to good use making spiked cocktail-inspired sorbets. Sorbet, unlike ice cream, requires no stovetop cooking and no custard base, meaning it really is just as easy as making a cocktail… all you have to do is blend and freeze! One taste of these adult concoctions will have your ice cream maker running all summer long.

Mango mojito sorbet

Yields about 3-1/2 cups

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound chopped fresh mango
  • 1/4 cup mango-flavored rum
  • Juice of one-half lime
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon chopped mint

Directions:

  1. Freeze ice cream maker bowl according to manufacturer's directions.
  2. Place all ingredients in a blender and puree until smooth and sugar is dissolved.
  3. Refrigerate mixture for at least one hour.
  4. Pour mixture into ice cream maker and run according to manufacturer's directions.
  5. Once frozen, transfer to a container and place in the freezer to freeze completely.

Watermelon margarita sorbet

Yields about 4 cups

Ingredients:

  • 1-1/2 pounds chopped seedless watermelon
  • 3 tablespoons tequila
  • 1 tablespoon triple sec
  • Juice of one-half lime
  • 1/2 cup sugar

Directions:

  1. Freeze ice cream maker bowl according to manufacturer's directions.
  2. Place all ingredients in a blender and puree until smooth and sugar is dissolved.
  3. Refrigerate mixture for at least one hour.
  4. Pour mixture into ice cream maker and run according to manufacturer's directions.
  5. Once frozen, transfer to a container and place in the freezer to freeze completely.

Kiwi colada sorbet

Yields about 2 cups

Ingredients:

  • 8 kiwi, skin removed and cut into pieces
  • 2 tablespoons cream of coconut
  • 1/4 cup white rum
  • 1/4 cup sugar

Directions:

  1. Freeze ice cream maker bowl according to manufacturer's directions.
  2. Place all ingredients in a blender and puree until smooth and sugar is dissolved.
  3. Refrigerate mixture for at least one hour.
  4. Pour mixture into ice cream maker and run according to manufacturer's directions.
  5. Once frozen, transfer to a container and place in the freezer to freeze completely.
