Oscar worthy cocktails

On February 27 the world will be tuned in to the 83rd Annual Academy Awards’ ceremony to see which films and which actors will be taking home the prized Oscar. If you’re planning an Academy Award viewing party, serve up these cocktail recipes inspired by our favorite movies of the year including “Black Swan,” “The Fighter,” “True Grit,” “Social Network,” and more.

Oscar worthy cocktails

Black Opal

For your Black Swan fans, serve this unexpected beverage with a bite.


  • 1/2-ounce vodka
  • 1/2-ounce gin
  • 1/2-ounce rum
  • 1/2-ounce triple sec
  • 1/2-ounce blackberry liqueur
  • 1/2-ounce Blue Curacao liqueur
  • 1-ounce 7-Up® soda
  • 1 1/2-ounces sweet and sour mix


  1. Stir all ingredients together in a beer glass.
  2. Garnish with a cherry and lemon wedge.

Irish Knockout

In honor of The Fighter's Irish boxer, Mickey Ward (aka Mark Wahlberg), serve up this Irish-inspired cocktail.


  • 5-ounces Irish whiskey
  • 1 can of Monster® energy drink
  • 5 to 6 ice cubes


  1. Start with a cup, 16 to 24-ounces.
  2. Put 5 to 6 ice cubes into the cup then add 5-ounces of Jameson Irish Whiskey.
  3. Fill the rest of the cup with Irish Blend Java Monster.

Dance with a Dream

Inceptio n's high-tech dream invasion theme deserves a dreamy cocktail to match.


  • 2-ounces brandy
  • 1/2-ounce triple sec
  • 1 teaspoon anisette


  1. In a shaker half filled with ice cubes, combine all of the ingredients; shake well.
  2. Strain into a cocktail glass.

Crown the King

Honor King George VI of Britain's rise to the throne in The King's Speech with this powerful shot.


  • 1-ounce Crown Royal® Canadian whiskey
  • 10-ounces Budweiser® B-to-the-E


  1. Pour a can of Budweiser B-to-the-E into a pint glass; drop in a shot of Crown Royal Canadian whiskey.
  2. Shoot.

Big Daddy

Honor The Kids Are All Righ t's birth father with this Big Daddy drink.


  • 1 1/2-ounces vodka
  • Fill with water
  • 1 twist lime peel
  • Ice cubes


  1. Pour over ice.
  2. Stir and serve.


True Grit 's story of a woman tracking down her father's murderer with the help of a U.S. Marshal goes down smoothly with this cocktail.


  • 1 part Bacardi® O rum
  • 1 part Mountain Dew® Code Red soda
  • Lime juice


  1. Fill a small beer pitcher half full with ice.
  2. Pour in equal amounts of a Bacardi O rum and Mountain Dew Code Red soda; add lime juice for taste (fresh limes or lime juice will work the same).
  3. This drink may be made in the form of a shooter, a cocktail, or party punch, just keep the mixture 1/2 rum and 1/2 soda.

Taste of Winter

Winter's Bone 's chilling tale tastes better with this Taste of Winter cocktail.


  • 4 cl Absolut® Citron vodka
  • 1 cl Heering® cherry liqueur
  • 1 cl Galliano® herbal liqueur
  • Fill with Schweppes® Russian tonic water


  1. Build it in the glass and add plenty of ice cubes.
  2. Note: 1-ounce equals about 2.957 centiliters (cl); you can convert centiliters to ounces by dividing by 3.

Virgin Raspberry Daiquiri

In honor of Toy Story 3's resident evil teddy bear, Lotso, serve this devilishly delicious but decidedly non-alcoholic daiquiri.


  • 3-ounces raspberry puree
  • 2-ounces pineapple juice
  • 1/2-ounce lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon caster sugar
  • 1/2-ounce raspberry syrup


  1. Blend briefly with half a glassful of crushed ice in a wine goblet.
  2. Garnish with raspberries, and serve.

Neon Geek

Geeks have never looked so good than in The Social Network. Drink to the geeks with this one.


  • 1/2-ounce Jim Beam® bourbon whiskey
  • 1/2-ounce Mountain Dew® citrus soda
  • 1-ounce Firewater® cinnamon schnapps


  1. Combine ingredients in a mixing glass with one cup of crushed ice.
  2. Strain into a margarita glass and serve immediately.

Mountain Jack

127 Hours is so intense, you'll need a stiff drink.


  • 1 part Jack Daniel's® Tennessee whiskey
  • 4 parts Mountain Dew® citrus soda
  • Ice cubes


  1. Place ice cubes in a scotch glass; pour in Jack Daniel's and Mountain Dew.
  2. Stir and serve.
