Who do you think are the most powerful food people in America? We were surprised by TheDailyMeal.com’s list – Emeril didn’t cut it, we’d never heard of some of the “big names”, and, though we may think celeb chefs and cookbook authors are the authorities in food, it turns out there are quite a few other people who have a huge influence on our America diets. Here are the 10 most powerful food folk in America, according to TheDailyMeal.com.

Not surprisingly, Wal-Mart's president and CEO Mike Duke made the list. Why? Because Wal-Mart is the world's largest grocer and, sit down for this, the nation's No. 1 purchaser of organic foods. In fact, Duke has made a commitment to have Wal-Mart purchase more locally grown produce and he even instituted a program of sourcing sustainably grown produce. However, Duke has also lobbied strenuously to loosen the legal definition of "organic" so that more products can bear that label.
