Tri-Tip Beef Recipes

Cheap & tasty tri-tip recipes

Making beef for a family dinner can get expensive. But with tri-tip, an often underused cut of beef, you can prepare inexpensive beef dinners that are full of flavor and won’t take a lot of time to cook.

Roasted Tri-Tip beef recipe

Makes 4 to 6 servings

Ingredients

  •  1/4 cup red wine
  •  1 teaspoon chopped fresh rosemary
  •  1 tablespoon finely chopped garlic
  •  1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  •  1 1/2 to 2 1/2 pound beef tri-tip

Directions

  1. Combine red wine with rosemary, garlic, mustard, and salt and pepper.
  2. Place roast in a zip-top bag and pour marinade into it. Let roast marinate in refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or up to 5 hours.
  3. When ready to cook, preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Place roast in a roasting pan covered in aluminum foil; discard marinade. Cook roast for 30 to 35 minutes or until a meat thermometer reads between 115 and 125 degrees F.
  4. Remove roast from oven and let rest for a few minutes before slicing.

 

Sesame Brown Sugar Tri-Tip Steak recipe

Makes 4 to 6 servings

Ingredients

  •  2 green onions, sliced
  •  1 cup hoisin sauce
  •  3 tablespoons sesame oil
  •  2 tablespoons brown sugar
  •  1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  •  2 garlic cloves, minced
  •  1 1/2 to 2 pound beef tri-tip, sliced into 1-inch thick steaks
  •  2 teaspoons toasted sesame seeds

Directions

  1. Combine green onions with soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, ginger, and garlic.
  2. Place steaks in a zip-top bag and pour marinade into it. Let roast marinate in refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or up to 5 hours.
  3. When ready to serve, preheat grill to medium heat. Place steaks on grill and discard marinade. Cook steaks about 4 to 5 minutes per side or until medium to medium rare, about 120 to 125 degrees F.
  4. Remove steaks from grill and let rest a few minutes and top each steak with sesame seeds before serving.

 

Tri-Tip Beef Skewers recipe

Makes 4 to 6 servings

Ingredients

  •  4 garlic cloves, minced
  •  1/4 cup honey mustard
  •  2 tablespoons spicy mustard
  •  2 teaspoons paprika
  •  1/4 teaspoon salt
  •  1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  •  2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  •  1/3 cup olive oil
  •  1 1/2 to 2 pound beef tri-tip, sliced into 1/8-inch slices

Directions

  1. Combine garlic with both mustards, paprika, salt, pepper, vinegar, and olive oil.
  2. Place beef strips in a zip-top bag and pour marinade into it. Let roast marinate in refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or up to 5 hours.
  3. When ready to serve, preheat grill to medium heat. Remove strips from marinade and discard marinade then weave beef strips onto metal or wooden skewers. Place skewers on grill and cook about 3 to 4 minutes or until medium to medium rare.
  4. Remove skewers from grill and serve with your choice of dipping sauce.
