Plain old holiday party apps are so 1950s — Asian inspiration is where it's at this year
Shrimp, roasted Brussels sprouts and meatballs. All typical holiday party fare, all delicious foods that we wouldn't turn down — but aren't they kinda starting to be a little "been there, done that"? Yes, we're all for traditional holiday foods, but we're also all about adding a new twist on things.
Enter a little Asian inspiration. By adding Kikkoman® Soy Sauce or Kikkoman® Teriyaki Marinade & Sauce to these classic holiday foods, you kick things up a notch with exotic flavor and wow guests with something a little unexpected.

Caramelized Brussels Sprouts
Prep time: 1 hour 20 minutes Cook time: 35 – 40 minutes Makes about 7 servings
2 pounds Brussels sprouts 2 quarts cold water 1/2 cup kosher salt 1/4 cup sugar 1/4 cup Kikkoman® Teriyaki Marinade & Sauce 3 tablespoons olive oil 1 teaspoon black pepper
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Trim stems and remove wilted leaves from the Brussels sprouts; rinse under cold water.
In a large bowl, combine water, salt, sugar and Kikkoman® Teriyaki Marinade & Sauce, stirring until all of the sugar and salt dissolve.
Add sprouts to the brine mixture, making sure the sprouts are submerged. Brine for 1 hour.
Drain the Brussels sprouts. Do not rinse.
Toss the sprouts with olive oil and black pepper in a large baking dish.
Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until the sprouts are crisp on the outside and tender on the inside.
Teriyaki Shrimp Skewers
Prep time: 40 minutes Cook time: 5 minutes Makes about 5 servings
Combine Kikkoman® Teriyaki Marinade & Sauce, garlic, ginger, scallions and Kikkoman® Sesame Oil in a medium saucepan and stir to combine. Stir over medium heat until thickened, then remove from the heat.
Add 2/3 of the sauce and the shrimp to a sealable container and marinate for 15 minutes. Set aside the remaining sauce to drizzle on the cooked shrimp.
Thread the shrimp on skewers and discard the leftover marinade.
Cook the shrimp on a preheated grill pan over medium heat for 4 to 5 minutes on each side until the shrimp is pink and cooked through.
Serve the shrimp immediately with the reserved sauce and sprinkle with chopped cilantro and sesame seeds.
Prep time: 30 minutes Cook time: 25 minutes Makes about 20 servings
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, Kikkoman® Panko Breadcrumbs, egg yolks, scallions, garlic, ginger, Kikkoman® Soy Sauce and pepper. Using a wooden spoon or clean hands, stir until well combined.
Roll the mixture into 1 1/4- to 1 1/2-inch meatballs, forming about 20 meatballs.
Place the meatballs onto a prepared baking sheet and bake until golden-brown and cooked through, about 20 minutes.
Add 1 bottle of Kikkoman® Teriyaki Marinade & Sauce to a saucepan and bring it to a low simmer.
Once the meatballs are cooked, add them to the pan and cook for up to another 5 minutes to thoroughly coat them in Kikkoman® Teriyaki Marinade & Sauce.
Serve the meatballs immediately and garnish them with sesame seeds if desired.
