This election, people know what they want: Veggie burgers from In-N-Out

We're in the middle of one hell of an election, and with the American political system gridlocked as it is, sometimes it feels like making change is actually impossible.

That's why a new petition demanding that In-N-Out put a vegetarian burger on the menu gives me hope.

So far, 23,346 people have signed the petition asking that In-N-Out add a veggie burger to the menu. In their words, "As a company that prides itself on both customer satisfaction and ethical business practices, adding a meat-free option is a no-brainer."

I'd have to agree. And with so many meat-free burger options out there today, there's no reason why they'd have to settle for a dry, gray soy patty.

There's the Impossible Burger, which is completely plant-based, but "bleeds." Beyond Meat has a great patty called The Beast Burger that pretty accurately replicates the flavor and texture of a fast-food beef patty.

Or, they could go for something simpler to keep costs down — I've had portobello cap and grilled eggplant "burgers" that do the job just fine.

Of course, as with any progressive movement, there is some backlash. But reading the whiny comments from people who think In-N-Out serving veggie burgers will somehow affect their lives in a negative way is kind of hilarious. Don't you guys have more important things to complain about?

Anyway, it's good to see a grassroots movement that might actually have a chance of making a change in my lifetime. It would be a small, but oh-so-tasty victory. Then, when I get depressed about actual politics, I could finally order fast food and eat my feelings, veggie-style, alongside my omnivorous brethren.
