Name Your Own Price Day is the inverse of 7-Eleven Day (7/11), when customers were allowed to bring their own containers to the store to fill up with as much Slurpee as they desired for a fixed price. On 11/7, customers can get a standard, any size Slurpee and pay whatever they want — from 1 penny to $100.
But why would anyone pay more than 1 cent for a Slurpee if they can get away with it? It turns out that all proceeds from Slurpee sales on 11/7 will go to Feeding America. Feeding America is a network of food banks that provides more than 3.6 billion meals yearly across the United States to help support the 1 in 6 Americans who are food insecure. The money raised by 7-Eleven on Name Your Own Price Day will go to the organization and specifically to local food banks affiliated with the network.
7-Eleven sells more than 14 million Slurpees every month, which works out to be around 500,000 a day. If every person who bought a Slurpee on 11/7 paid $2, that would mean almost $1 million could be donated to Feeding America in a single day, right before the holiday season, which is when many food banks are at their busiest.
Don't you just loving having altruistic reasons for indulging in something totally sugary? We won't judge if you have a Slurpee with every meal on 11/7 — after all, every sugary sip is for a good cause!
