Doughnuts are good mixed with just about anything... except maybe fish

Doughnuts, whether topped or filled, are the perfect base for crazy food mashups. Is there anything people won't stuff a doughnut with?

San Francisco-based sweetshop The Cravory recently posted an insanely tasty-looking sweet treat — a doughnut stuffed with an entire cookie. Just in case that doughnut alone wasn't enough of an indulgence for you.

Doughnuts are the perfect pastry to experiment with — they can be stuffed or topped with all manner of ingredients. If you can think of a way to doctor up a doughnut, then it's probably already been done. Don't believe us? Then check out the wild doughnut dishes below.

This ingenious culinary confusion combines two of my favorite breakfast treats: waffles and doughnuts. Just don't make them on a weekday. A carb-a-licious sweet treat like these is sure to inspire a midmorning nap.

Say goodbye to boring bagels; the savory doughnut is here to save your humdrum breakfast! And since they're not loaded with sugar, you can have an extra one, right?

If you can imagine a more delectable-sounding food than pizza on top of and inside a deep-fried ball of dough, then you're a more creative soul than I. In my case, these savory morsels look like heaven.

Can't decide if you want a savory or sweet breakfast? Why choose when you could just slap a fried egg and some bacon onto your favorite doughnut? It might sound crazy, but sometimes crazy is just the morning pick-me-up you need.

This doughnut from Gourdoughs in Austin, Texas, takes the savory pastry to extreme levels, with pulled pork and potato salad on a fresh doughnut, drizzled with honey barbecue sauce. So worth the inevitable heartburn.

Fish doughnut

Learning about the existence of this doughnut, from KFC in Singapore, has ruined my day. "What could make a doughnut even tastier? How about some fish?" How about not! It's things like this that give doughnut mashups a bad name.

Buffalo Crunch doughnut

You can technically share this pull-apart doughnut, but good luck finding anyone willing to give it a go with you. Drenched in mysterious "crunch," the Buffalo Crunch doughnut from Tim Hortons has a pool of hot sauce in the middle, and also comes in a ranch version for those wary of the unbridled Buffalo heat of the original. Luckily for humanity, the doughnut is being offered for a limited time only at the New York State Fair. So, I guess, get one while you can?
