Popping shots for your patriotic bash

You remember Pop Rocks — I know you do. Those delicious little candies that would pop, crackle and crunch as soon as they hit your tongue? Well, I was feeling a little nostalgic today (and a little stressed), so I decided to blend my favorite Pop Rocks with my favorite bad-day elixir: Jell-O shots. The result is the world's most fun cocktail ever.

To make these snazzy little shots even better, I stuck rock candies into the Jell-O shots, which almost look like fireworks popping out of the Jell-O. The best part about these is how easy they are to make. All you need is a little chilling time for the Jell-O. These will be a huge hit at your 4th of July party, but just make sure the kids realize they're boozy.

Patriotic Pop Rocks Jell-O shots recipe

Yields 12

  • 1 (3 ounce) package raspberry Jell-O
  • 1/2 cup Smirnoff Light Raspberry Pomegranate vodka
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 6 packages red and blue Pop Rocks
  • 12 red, white or blue rock candy on a stick

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the Jell-O, vodka, cold water and boiling water. Whisk until the powder is fully dissolved. Using a spoon, carefully pour the liquid into 12 shot glasses.
  2. Put the shot glasses into the fridge, and chill them for at least 4 hours or until set.
  3. Once set, fill a shallow bowl with water. Carefully sprinkle a few Pop Rocks into another shallow bowl. (You want to sprinkle just a few at a time; otherwise they'll clump.) Working quickly, dip the tops of the shots into the water and then into the Pop Rocks.
  4. Once the rims have been coated, stick a red, white or blue rock candy inside, and serve.
