Though the ingredients list of a skincare or hair product may be animal-free, it doesn't mean that the beauty item is cruelty-free. Many beauty products are tested on animals. To help you navigate ingredients and ensure you're getting a truly cruelty-free product, here are three vegan apps.

Cruelty-Free (Free)

Published by the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics’ (CCIC) Leaping Bunny Program, this handy iPhone and iPad vegan app lists over 200 U.S. and Canadian companies that do not test ingredients, formulations, or finished products on animals. The Leaping Bunny Program certifies that no new animal testing is used, so you can be confident about your cruelty-free choices. You can look up cosmetic, personal care, and household product companies while you’re on the go, searching alphabetically and by product categories, and using direct links to company websites.

Choose Cruelty-Free (Free)

Available for Androids, this vegan app gives you a list of cruelty-free accredited cosmetic and household items, including make up, skin care, deodorants, household cleaners and more. You'll also find a list of vegan products. Though this app is based in Austrailia, many of the items are distributed worldwide. And considering the app is free, you have nothing to lose by giving it a try.

Animal-Free (Free)

Not just for beauty products, the Animal-Free app is a product checker and online pocket reference guide for identifying common and hidden animal ingredients.  Use the app's barcode scanning feature to look up products in the database. The ingredients listed can be viewed by those that are always animal-derived and those that are sometimes animal-derived.
