Ants, cockroaches, moths and flies are a fact of life but they don't have to be a pest inside your home. Instead of turning to chemically-derived insecticides, try the following vegan-friendly pest repellents made with ingredients you probably already have at home.

Natural ant repellent

When ants march into your home or garage, sprinkle their trail with baking soda, cayenne pepper, or paprika. You can also plant a border of fresh mint outside around your house to make the little buggers retreat.

Natural cockroach repellent

To keep cockroaches at bay, mix equal parts confectioners' sugar and baking soda and sprinkle over their trail and their entry spot.

Natural moth repellent

Defend your closets from moths by making muslin sachets filled with dried lavender or dried rosemary and mint or cedarwood chips. Place sachets in your closet and drawers.

Natural fly paper

You can catch more flies with sugar than a fly swatter. To make fly paper, mix together equal parts sugar, corn syrup, and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring until smooth. Cool slightly then dip strips of tape in the sweet mixture. Hang up outside to dry slightly for 30 to 40 minutes. Hang in the house with a string. The flies will get stuck on the paper and you can discard the paper.
