Lindsay Lohan fired her lawyer yesterday in a rehab imbroglio that hardly makes the beleaguered star look stable and sober.
The story is kind of confusing and hard to piece together, but in the end, the New York Daily News reports, Lohan wound up at the Betty Ford Center for court-mandated rehab late Thursday night.
The Mean Girls star had been ordered to attend rehab after she lied in court about a car accident that occurred last June.
The court told her to go to a facility in New York, but according to father Michael Lohan, his daughter panicked after he described the New York rehab to her.
"I told her it's like a motel, and you share a room and have a plastic shower curtain. You can’t smoke, you can’t leave the property. She said, 'What?!'" Michael Lohan told the Daily News.
So Lindsay tried to enroll in a California facility, taking a friend's private, chartered plane, according to E! Online, on a late-night flight from New York to California after she'd missed her commercial flight Wednesday night.
But sources told the Daily News that Lindsay was making "last-minute" demands about guests and using her cell phone, so though she was driven to the California facility (and though her lawyer told the court she was already there), she never actually checked in.
Longtime and current lawyer Shawn Holley worked "all night" to get the troubled star into Betty Ford Center in California, the Daily News wrote.
"I just found out she's okay," Michael Lohan told the Daily News. "According to the judge and the city attorney's orders, Lindsay has checked into rehab. I will not and cannot disclose where, but it was no thanks to Mark Heller."
The Betty Ford Center, by the way, allows smoking.
