All The Gossip And Questions We Have

Who will win: Joe Carroll or Ryan Hardy? With Season 2 already confirmed, our guess is neither. But that doesn't mean crazy things aren't in store for the end of Season 1.

The Following

Warning: Spoilers ahead. Do not continue reading unless you want to know all the juicy details about the season finale of The Following.

Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) is ready to write the final chapter of his book, but we know Fox has renewed The Following for a second season. So don't think all the answers are coming in the finale this Monday. That shouldn't get you down, though. There are sure to be plenty of plot twists and gore to keep you swearing until Season 2.

There's no telling if Carroll will die, remain at large or be taken into custody. If he is arrested again at the end of this season, it will be interesting to see what sort of Hannibal plots the show could play out. Fox is staying tight-lipped on the fate of any of the characters beyond Jacob, whom we saw Emma murder last week.

Here's what we do know:

1. Claire will be rescued

According to photo captions, the FBI's search for Carroll leads them to a lighthouse. Claire can be seen in the photo above wrapped in a blanket, standing with Weston (Shawn Ashmore) and Hardy (Kevin Bacon). She is calling her son. Here's the caveat: Just because the FBI rescues her doesn't mean Carroll can't take her again.

2. The FBI finds Carroll's manuscript

Carroll has been planning everything since the beginning.

We kinda knew this already. It's the whole point of the manuscript he's writing. But when Weston says this in the promo video, he seems to allude to the fact that there's more to the story than we know. My guess is that Carroll finished the final chapter before sailing away with Claire. What the FBI finds will lead them to his greater plot.

3. Emma confronts Hardy

In the clip we see, Emma disarms Hardy and holds him at gunpoint. She tells him the only way he and Claire will be reunited is in death.

Here's the thing: In the extended clip, you can see a brief flash of a person with blood covering his or her mouth. The person has brown hair, and it appears to be in a pixie haircut. I think it's Emma. If it is, she isn't in for a happy finale. Her fate may be worse than Jacob's.

4. Carroll and Hardy will meet face-to-face

Duh. Yeah, we know, the finale wouldn't be complete without a Carroll/Hardy face-off. Carroll wants Hardy to watch Claire die. He's left some pretty big bread crumbs, as Carroll puts it, to point Hardy in the right direction.

When Hardy shows up, Carroll has all sorts of games planned to make the two suffer. Carroll suggests he start the fun by poking out Claire's eyes.

5. Agent Parker has a cell phone

Let's not forget Agent Parker. She's buried alive a few feet under the earth right now. No doubt that will provide a great distraction for the FBI while Claire and Joe try to float past the Coast Guard.

Parker was buried with her phone, so she's able to call Ryan. The problem is, she doesn't have any idea where she's been buried.

According to the promo video, Carroll is intent on taking everyone Hardy cares about away from him. Hopefully, that doesn't mean Parker will die, but we wouldn't put it past the show. Characters don't seem to survive long in the world of The Following.

Personally, I think she'll live. We see a lot of cult members getting killed, but not as many of the good guys. Sure, Weston's been beaten up a few times — and we aren't sure what that pen to the eye did to Nick — but generally speaking, good guys seem to make it through (minor characters excepted).

The season finale of The Following airs this Monday on Fox.

After seeing the ending, all I can say is WOW. I really enjoyed the series because it was always a new show! Like in the old days, when a tv show ran from start to finish in one season and there was an actual ending, so you didn't feel like you were left wondering whatever happened. Great idea FOX! (Sometimes you have to go back to the beginning so you get it done right!)

No end could be agonizing enough for that P. O. S Emma as far as I'm concerned. I hate her more than Joe

I just watched the finale. I predicted Claire would die, but I thought they would save Parker. The last scene was unbelievable. I knew after Claire and Ryan got back to the apartment that the neighbor would show up. I think Claire is dead; but, of course Ryan has to live as he is the star of the show. Next season will find him pursuing the rest of the motley crew. Emma has got to go. What an evil little witch with her angelic face and pixie haircut. I LOVE this show. Great ending. What a comeback for Kevin Bacon. I have always liked that dude.
