Selena Gomez may have taken a note from her best friend Taylor Swift when writing her new music. Swift has become the queen of breakup songs, and known for getting back at exes through music. With Gomez’s new single, it looks like she wants to get in on the fun.
Gomez’s new song “Rule the World” seems to be directed toward her ex Justin Bieber (again).
“Our love was made to rule the world/You came and broke the perfect girl/ You left wanting what we were/ Our love was made to rule the world," she sings in the chorus of the song.
The difference between Gomez and Swift is that with Gomez, it’s much easier to guess whom she is talking about. The song sounds very much like what we know of Gomez and Bieber’s relationship.
In the song, she keeps going, and sings a song that seems like it could actually hurt Bieber.
“Forget forever/Forget you ever knew my name," she continued. "I know we can't pretend that we were never lovers in the end/I've tried to tell myself that this pain would go away/Just go away."
However, it’s possible Gomez didn’t take her breakup song tips from Taylor Swift, but from Bieber himself. The 19-year-old came out with a song in January, called “Nothing Like Us”, that is very possibly about his 20-year-old ex.
“I gave you everything baby/everything I had to give/girl why would you push me away?” Bieber sang in the song.
Gomez seems to be doing well these days, with a new film out. Spring Breakers with James Franco will be released Friday, March 15.
Bieber, however, is not doing so well. Last week, he collapsed on stage and was rushed to a London hospital. The next day, after being released, he apparently flipped out on a photog. The new Gomez song will probably not help what seems to be a Bieber meltdown.
