In the beginning there was Adam and Eve, and now meet Eden and Adam in this new modern day spin of a Romeo and Juliet love story. In Upside Down the characters live in two different planets suspended by gravity that pulls them apart, when in reality their worlds are actually closer than they realize. However, in this divided universe, the love they share for each other is magnetic. Believing that love is stronger than gravity, Adam sets out to fight for Eden. That's a'more!
In this clip, Eden, played by Kirsten Dunst, thinks she is calling Bob in his office to see why he flaked out. As she leaves a voicemail, Adam, played by Jim Sturgess, answers her call pretending to be Bob. Little does she know she has just reconnected with her long lost teen love, who is planning to clandestinely meet up with her in place of Bob.
I know what you're thinking, she's really aggressive in this clip. Why did she have to call and ask him out? Why didn't Bob call her? Why do men flake!? Ah the frustrations with dating. This clip is a great example of modern day dating because Eden pursues the guy and asks him out. A typical portrayal of a man who is inexperienced in dating, Adam is confused about what it means to take a girl out. The irony!
Let this be a tip for guys. If you are on a date with a girl, don't take her to a cafeteria or a drive-in. Do your research and find a place where you can show off your common sense or sensibility. Then again, if Jim Sturgess asked me out to a cafeteria, I would say yes in a heartbeat. He'd still have to pay though.
Don't worry fellas, this chick flick also has some cool visual effects that might be worth taking your lady out on a date to see. Who knows, Kirsten Dunst may even pull another upside down kiss you can study. After all, she had her practice in Spider-Man III. An upside down kiss is a great addition to anyone's bucket list!
