Jane Bingum Rises Again!

Drop Dead Diva has done the impossible — it's come back from cancellation. Lifetime has given the show a second chance. Instead of keeping it down, they've renewed it for a fifth season.

Drop Dead Diva

The Lifetime Network has changed their tune. Back in January, they announced the cancellation of Drop Dead Diva after four seasons. The news came as a shock considering the show's strong ratings. But now, two months later, it's a different story.

Say it isn't so! Drop Dead Diva canceled >>

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Drop Dead Diva's been resurrected. Lifetime and Sony Pictures Television have come to an agreement regarding a fifth season. They've settled on a more cost-effective production model that will keep it around a little longer.

The show's return is a pleasant surprise considering the state of last season's finale. It was a cliffhanger episode, which left lives hanging in the balance. The lack of closure is one of the reasons creator Josh Berman fought so hard to keep Diva alive.

Drop Dead Diva exec promises a return "no matter what" >>

Shortly after it was canceled he told EW, "I’m not ruling anything out. I’m not even ruling out Lifetime and Sony reaching a new deal. Like, I’m open to anything that will save the show. My goal is to still have the show on the air this summer, no matter what."

It turns out he was right. Lifetime brought them back and the rest is history!

"Drop Dead Diva centers on an aspiring model, Deborah "Deb" Dobkins, who was killed in a car crash and is brought back to life as lawyer Jane Bingum (Brooke Elliot)."

The series co-stars Margaret Cho, April Bowlby, Kate Levering, Jackson Hurst, Josh Stamberg and Carter MacIntyre.

I had no idea it was cancelled and have been waiting for some previews of the start of the new season. Thank goodness so many others knew it was being cancelled. I'm so tired of networks cancelling shows out of the blue. I love this series and would certainly have voiced my opinion. I did send my displeasure of "Army Wives" being cancelled and then, just happened to stumble on the "Season Premier" a couple of weeks ago. Some stations have even cancelled right in the middle of a series, that infuriates me!

I could hardly wait for the next Sunday to come around so I could see the next episode. I LOVE THIS SHOW. There's not a lot of good shows like this left on TV now and I was devastated when news came that it was cancelled. It hits home to so many people. Thanks Lifetime to listening to what the people want to watch. I'm like a kid in a candy store waiting for Season 5.

Your comment on that Drop Dead Diva has done the impossible, Hello...that is what this whole show is about, Coming back from Death. What a resurrection, and I for one will be welcoming one of TV's best shows back into my living room this summer. DDD your number one in my books.

@daydreams I couldn't agree more with your post. Drop dead diva is one of the best shows lifetime had on...and I agree with you about the client list. I don't understand why a women's network would have a show about women whoring themselves out.

I love this show and could not believe that Lifetime would bring back a show like The Client List and cancel a great show like Drop Dead Diva! Army Wives and Drop Dead Diva rides again!...for me Lifetime can cancel The Client List and I would be completely fine with that if it meant keeping Drop Dead Diva on the air
