Karl Pilkington Is
An Idiot Abroad

Karl Pilkington is, without a doubt, the most adorably ignorant man on television... possibly the planet. Not sure who he is? That's OK. Hardly anyone did until two years ago.

An Idiot Abroad's Karl Pilkington with Ricky Gervais

Meet Karl Pilkington, star of An Idiot Abroad. Round-headed, strangely insightful, hilariously ignorant, and amusingly antisocial, he is, without a doubt, the least likely person to become a world traveler.

He's the guy who, if he were American, would spend every vacation at Myrtle Beach... by the pool at his hotel. He's not an adventurer. He doesn't hike, he doesn't fancy meeting people (whether they're English or foreign), and we're not even sure how he survived before he found a girlfriend and someone to give him his own television show.

How did he end up on television?

That's another interesting fact about Karl Pilkington: He's friends with Ricky Gervais.

And Ricky Gervais enjoys nothing quite as much as he enjoys making other people uncomfortable... even his friends. So, he persuaded Pilkington to go abroad and let him get it all on tape.

The first two seasons of An Idiot Abroad saw Karl hanging with a cross-dresser, being attacked by monkeys, riding the "coach" section of the Trans-Siberian Express, and visiting a remote island where the inhabitants worship Prince Philip. Pilkington has hemmed and hawed his way through half the globe and now he's returning to wander aimlessly around the rest of it.

This time, though, he'll have a sidekick.

Traveling alongside Karl will be Warwick Davis, an actor and dwarf best known for his role as Professor Flitwick in the Harry Potter series. Davis now has his own show, Life's Too Short. He's taking a break from his show to set out with Karl on what is sure to be a hysterical and frustrating journey across the earth.

To give you an idea of the kind of delightful interactions that will take place between Davis and his tall, goofy co-traveler, we've been told that at some point, Karl will ask Davis if he has knees.

You don't need to watch the first two seasons to understand what will happen throughout Season 3. However, if you have some time on your hands, we strongly recommend you check it out.

An Idiot Abroad, Season 3, premieres on Jan. 19, 2013, at 9/8c on the Science Channel.
