Does high school ever really end? That's what you'll be wondering after watching Emily Owens M.D. The new CW dramedy meshes childish insecurities with medical professionals. They're two things that make for a hilarious combination.
Emily Owens (Mamie Gummer) is the title character, a first-year resident at a major hospital. She works alongside her best bud, Will (Justin Hartley), whom she's head-over-heels in love with. The pair attended the same med school and are now practicing together.
Unfortunately, not everyone at the hospital is a friendly face. Emily also runs into Cassandra (Aja Naomi King), her high school nemesis. Cassandra was the girl who gave Emily her nickname, "Pits." It's not the most flattering title.
The CW has released a sneak peek that introduces the hospital's staff, including Tyra Dupre (Kelly McCreary), Dr. Micah Barnes (Michael Rady) and Dr. Gina Bandari (Necar Zadegan).
Emily Owens M.D. is one of The CW's most promising new shows. It's in the same boat as the superhero drama Arrow and the fantasy Beauty and the Beast. Next year, they'll be joined by the highly anticipated Sex and the City prequel, The Carrie Diaries.
Emily Owens M.D. premieres Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 8/7c.
