Fergie Stands Up
Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York and aunt to Prince William, spoke out against the Kate Middleton topless photos scandal at a book signing -- and she totally knows how it feels to have your bits and pieces spread all over the pages of a magazine.
It's the same old game, only the names have changed. Twenty years ago, Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York was embroiled in a royal scandal when a French magazine published photos of her topless and having her toes sucked by a man who was most certainly not her husband Prince Andrew.
Today it is Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge whose nipples are making headlines -- and Fergie feels for the girl.
Fergie spoke out at a book signing for her latest kids tome, Ballerina Rosie.
"I have total empathy and sympathy for her. I have been there and know what it’s like," she said of the Kate Middleton topless photo scandal.
"Everyone is entitled to privacy. It is a devastating invasion of one's personal inner space. It is deplorable, abhorrent and despicable."
"She is a beautiful young woman doing a great job for the country. Why should she be stripped of that moment with her husband?"
When Fergie was put on blast by the papers, she did not get the support from the palace that Kate is currently enjoying. While the royal legal team was immediately sicced on any publication that even thought about displaying the pics, Fergie was left to fend for herself after being advised to let the images be published and get it over with.
The scandal is said to have hastened the end of her marriage. She and Prince Andrew divorced four years later.
