Get ready, Nelly Furtado fans: The Canadian singer is back in a big way. Today marks the release of the latest video for "Parking Lot," the first single off her new album The Spirit Indestructible.
The video, according to Furtado, is a throwback to her teenage years and is reminiscent of "good times in my hometown, sort of like my own take on 'Summer Of 69'."
So, no more sexy Nelly? Well, she's always sexy — but she's more aware of what she's putting out there, thanks to her 8-year-old daughter.
"From (Nevis' birth) forward I've been looking at my career in a more professional way. Before, I was just floating down the river and not really sure what I was doing," Furtado recently told the U.K. Daily Mirror.
"Writing-wise I keep her in mind -- the tone of things, how I present myself."
The singer's walking the walk — she replaces the word "promiscuous" from her 2006 song by the same name to "mysterious" when she performs on stage.
"I guess I wanted to show that the song's still a good song without that word in it. It's still melodic," she said.
The Spirit Indestructible is Furtado's first album since her 2010 Best Of album — and she wasn't sure she wanted to record again.
"I go through a phase like that every once in a while. I love music and I love making it, but I don't love the promotional side because it's draining creatively," she said.
"It's like being a hamster on a wheel with no time to get off. But I usually work through those emotions, and what pulls me back is the music."
