She Found Out About The Engagement Online

The woman who dated Kroeger right before Avril Lavigne says they broke up in May. So why is he saying he has been with Avril since February?

Chad Kroeger

A 27-year-old Ohio woman said Chad Kroeger and Avril Lavigne's engagement didn't shock anyone as much as her.

Kristen Dewitt told RadarOnline that she and Chad Kroeger had been dating for years, and when they broke up in May it was mutual. But when Lavigne and Kroeger announced their engagement this week, something seemed wrong to Dewitt.

"His engagement to Avril completely caught Kristen off guard, and the timelines don't match up," said RadarOnline. "Chad had to have been seeing Avril behind Kristen's back."

When the couple made the announcement of the engagement this week, Dewitt went to Twitter to share her frustration.

"The moment u find out ur ex of four months engaged the girl he was cheating on you with! #classic," she said.

While Kroeger hasn’t said anything about Dewitt, in April he was on the Dave & Jimmy show on WNCI radio, a Columbus, Ohio, station.

"Yes, I'm dating a girl from Ohio," Kroeger said in that interview. So even if Kroeger and Dewitt weren't public, the rocker did admit to dating someone after he had allegedly gotten together with Lavigne.

Kroeger had dated Marianna Goriuk for years, and when they broke up, he had started dating Dewitt, said RadarOnline.

Kroeger, 37, and Lavigne, 27, met when he signed on to help her write for her new album. He said he just couldn't help having feelings for her, and they said they started dating in February. They did so privately though, and very few people knew of the relationship before they announced their engagement.

On top of this, Lavigne's song Girlfriend from 2007 rings a little too true in this situation.

"Hey, hey, you, you, I don't like your girlfriend / No way, I think you need a new one / I could be your girlfriend / So come over here and tell me what I wanna hear / Better yet, make your girlfriend disappear / I don't wanna hear you say her name ever again," Lavigne sings in the song.

On Thursday, they released their engagement photo, which included a $350,000, 14 carat engagement ring.

Neither Kroeger nor Lavigne has commented on Dewitt's timeline, but they will likely move past it. The couple has not yet announced any wedding plans. But with the whirlwind romance, the wedding could come sooner than later.

Funny, Kristen NEVER spoke to any media source about this. So, stating she told RadarOnline anything is FALSE.

Chad was at the Juno’s with his girlfriend from Ohio in April, and since he says he has been seeing Avril for six months (which would be February) then I would say the truth is obvious. This whole thing smells of a poorly executed and far from thought out Public Relations move for a new album release (Avril’s, which she announced/tweeted the day before was finished) and an album that pretty much flopped in the US (Here And Now is still not platinum) & to generate interest in an upcoming European tour (Nickelback, who sales have been significantly lower this time around in NA (may were not sold out) which lead to no second leg in NA). The execution of the release came off as callous and as a deliberate attempt to hurt third parties (ie. the exes), based on the date of the release, which in of itself should speak volumes. As a long time NB fan, I no longer have any respect for their lead singer, as I thought he had more class than to stoop so low as to run to the tabloids to generate publicity or to so blatantly flaunt his far from honorable behavior to his fans which consist of a huge amount of middle-aged soccer moms. They could have waited longer, they could have said things differently to prevent any drama, they could have done a number of other things but they chose not to do that, instead they chose to go for the kick in the but publicity. And to be honest, I find them both pathetic. I seriously doubt two people who at the most spent a combined 45 to 60 or so days in each others company (based on managing two gf’s through April/May, a tour, interviews, album production, and various other activities) could have fallen so head over heels in love (more than likely it is simple lust), not to mention if after spending such a limited amount of time with someone and they become your best friend, obviously someone has no clue what a real friend is and should seriously reconsider those surrounding him. And a revamp of all those involved in their Public Relations department, for they were both poorly counseled on this move. I find this to be the biggest joke and worst Public Relations I have heard/seen in a long time and I actually feel sorry both of them as they have no clue what love or friendship is, and that has to be a very sad and lonely way to live.
