Pussy Riot: It's just funny to hear newcasters say it

A native of the storied coastal city of Charleston, South Carolina, Julie Sprankles has been a lover of words her entire life. As a Southerner, she certainly has what her mama calls “the gift of gab.” When she’s not writing, Julie can be...

Arrested development

While we don’t find humor in locking up three smart women for speaking their minds, we do find it difficult to suppress a smirk when watching newscasters repeatedly say "Pussy Riot" while trying to keep a straight face. But don’t take our word for it…

Dance, dance revolution

We're not sure what's more comical… the fact that this newscaster could barely even bring himself to say "Pussy Riot" or the fact that the dancing band members in the footage — are they doing the Russian Macarena? — have been imprisoned as threats to their country.

Madonna's tatas join the protest

Kudos to this fearless reporter! He manages to mention Pussy Riot and Madonna stripping in support of the band in the same breath, without so much as a discreet chuckle. Poor Bob Hoskins… we're not sure how he managed to get sandwiched between Madge, vadge, and Randy Travis found naked and drunk.

Pussy Riot verdict, as told by a British superbot

Is it just me, or does "Pussy Riot" sound even more hilarious when overarticulated in a British accent? This clip is made even funnier by the fact that the voice in the video sounds remarkably like the navigator from my car's GPS system.

Let's talk priorities, people...

After saying "Pussy Riot" once, the first reporter in this clip is all too eager to hand the reins over to his offscreen colleague. Who then comments on how, although Pussy Riot's previous stunts include a public orgy and a sex act with a chicken, detractors say the band simply took it too far with their church-step protest. Wait, say whaaaa?

Socially awkward meets sexist

During a report about a scandal rife with sexist tension, this guy practically giggles when his female anchor says "Pussy Riot." Creepy comment about his interpretation of the band name aside, I especially like when this socially awkward pair says "Pussy Riot" in sync. LOL.
