Lady Gaga set for big-screen debut

The cat -- err, chameleon -- is out of the bag: Lady Gaga will make her big-screen acting debut in the upcoming Machete Kills with Sofia Vergara. Read on to find out why Gaga's character is so appropriate for her.

Lady Gaga joins Machete Kills

Paws up if you're excited, Little Monsters: Lady Gaga is about to hit the big screen in director Robert Rodriguez's Machete Kills, the singer confirmed Thursday.

"Yes its true, I will be making my debut as an actress in the amazing MACHETE KILLS BY @RODRIGUEZ IM SO EXCITED!!! AH! Filming was insane," she tweeted on Thursday afternoon.

Naturally, Twitter exploded with the news.

"Yes its true! I just finished my first appearance in a movie," she added on the website, along with a photo of her character, the aptly named La Chameleon. The photo shows Gaga holding a gun with a wrap made of wolf fur. She's also rocking thigh-highs, a blonde 'do and a killer tattoo of the movie's main character, Machete. "Oh by the way my sleeve tattoo is of Danny Trejo [the actor who plays Machete]..my idea."

Machete Kills co-stars Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard, Mel Gibson, Alexa Vega (and possibly Charlie Sheen) and follows the titular character as he battles his way through Mexico to take down an arms dealer bent on launching a weapon into space. How Gaga's character fits into this is still a mystery, but we're stoked.

We're not the only ones looking forward to Gaga on the big screen: Rodriguez confirmed her casting with an excited tweet.

"I just finished working with @LadyGaga on @MacheteKills , she kicked SO MUCH A**! Holy Smokes. Blown away!" he wrote.

We'll have to wait a while to see Gaga & Co. together in theaters: Machete Kills isn't scheduled for release until sometime in 2013.
