Riddle us this, dear reader: If you aren't keeping dogs and roosters to fight, then why would you post a video on the web boasting about your "grand champion" fighters?
The short answer: You wouldn't. But, you're not Detroit-based rapper Young Calicoe. The rapper posted an MTV Cribs-style video earlier this week that showed off his menagerie of animals, including alligators, pit bulls and roosters. He talks about fighting the dogs and roosters while showing their backyard cages. The video went viral, leading the Detroit Humane Society to raid his home and take all of his animals.
Calicoe's defense? He was joking through the whole thing.
"If u find a video of me 'FIGHTING DOGS' PLEEEEZE (sic) LET ME KNO," he tweeted after the video took off on LiveLeak.
"Please tell me you don't have one?!" one follower tweeted to him, prompting him to respond with, "HELL NAAAW."
He tweeted after the raid expressing his sadness, though the tweet has since been deleted.
"Now that they have Healthy lovable dogs in custody, I just hope that they find nice homes for each and every one of them," he wrote.
Well, you could have avoided the whole thing, Calicoe, by not making the video in the first place. Also, we're not sure why he would keep roosters inside city limits — he says "we're not country, but this is some country s**t" in the video — if he wasn't planning on fighting them.
Now he could possible face felony charges with punishment of fines and up to five years in prison for posting the "joke" video.
Moral of the story? Don't joke about something so serious. It sounds like he's over the loss of his dogs, though.
"On my way to the studio... Time to work!!!!!" he tweeted on Wednesday afternoon.
