The Film Should Be Out Sooner Than Later

The producers will have to tone it up quite a bit to help translate the fastest selling paperback of all time into a movie.

Fifty Shades

What do one of the most popular books of all time and the most popular website of all time have in common?

According to the New York Daily News, two of the producers behind The Social Network have signed on to help produce the movie for the book Fifty Shades of Grey.

Universal announced today that producers Michael DeLuca and Dana Brunetti are going to produce not only the movie, but also the other two books of the trilogy when they are turned into movies.

“At its core, Fifty Shades of Grey is a complex love story, requiring a delicate and sophisticated hand to bring it to the big screen,” Universal co-chair Donna Langley told the New York Daily News. “Mike and Dana’s credits more than exemplify what we need in creative partners, and we’re glad to have them as part of our team.”

The book has become the fastest-selling paperback of all time, selling one million copies in just 11 weeks. The Da Vinci Code had the previous record, having sold its first million in 36 weeks.

“Universal won the rights to James’ erotic trilogy, which tells the steamy tale of a college grad who is seduced by a 20-something billionaire with a taste for bondage, after a bidding war in March,” said the New York Daily News. “The books have sold almost 20 million copies in the U.S. alone, according the Vintage, the series’ publisher.”

The paper said author E.L. James had a part in choosing the producers for the movie. She felt both had an understanding of the story, as well as its characters.

While any book that is rumored to be turned into an NC-17 movie may seem like a risk, the popularity of Fifty Shades of Grey made the bidding war an obvious and rewarding war to wage.

i have been waiting so patiently for the movie to be released, ive been watching some trailors on youtube.if they are anything like what the movie will be like it'll be just as popular as the books(which i loved) also i would be like Matt Boomer as christan grey and Alexis Bledel as Anastesia as they match the roles to the characters really well, which ever way it turns out i'm looking forward to it...... :D

I am very happy that they are doing the movie but I seriously have my doubts. Hollywood leaves out way too much in movies now days in order to not offend. I would have preferred this to be made by an independant film maker. I have always enjoyed the risks independant film makers take over big name hollywood directors. I guess we shall see.

I don't think it would matter if it was NC-17. The new generation has changed so much in matter of 10 years. I really do think that people would still watch this film. If the book is popular why not the movie. Most women dream on having that sweep you off your feet guy thing. It would make millions with this movie, parents today are not too much worried about their children watching these types films and New Generation....

Ian Sommerhalder, Robert Pattinson, either of these two handsome fellas would win my vote!!! Although Sommehalder has the bad boy thing two a T, He's very Christian-esque.

Has anyone considered Jay Penske as Christian Grey? He may not be an actor but his physical appearance and mannerisms certianly match pretty well with Christian Grey. All you have to do is read the book and then google a picture of him. Yummy....can't picture anyone else playing Christian Grey but Jay Penske. He's even around the same age!

I heard that they may take a lot of the out of it unfortunately (it is what makes the book so good)!!! But if that is the case I would hope that they do not make us wait for the whole story by dragging it out in 3 different movies!!

I really really hope they pick the right Actor & Actress to play christian and Ana. they both hold very special character that not much people(in Hollywood)can pull through(in my view). in terms of physical look has to match the standard of the book also. because thats how we readers begin to build and imagine them(C n A). surely it can be no less or else we will be very dissapointed ! other than that.. without doubt the book is beyond great!

The books are amazing, I really hope they get over the fact that Christian is in need of love, compassion, empathy, understanding and most importantly his need for control. The need to keep ana safe and happy. I also hope they get on with the films before people start getting bored and move on to something else. Which would be such a shame! I really can not wait to watch it. I hope it lives up to everything it portrays it the books.

I think there also should be some consideration of a series of fifty shades. We could all enjoy more weekly. Excitement. Oh the possibilities. Bring it on

I am afraid it will not be as good as the books, because I feel alot will be left out. The movie should be light porn & they will not do that, it more then likely will be R. It is a shame because I think so many want to see it and are expecing it to be like the book. It will be a big if they have the right people playing in it. Or it could be a flop & people can be very disappointed.

This is the first time, that I have ever read any type of love story. My girl friend bought the books, and she couldn't put them down. I decided to try and read them, and then could not put them down. She wasn't finished with part III, so I rean out and bought it myself, because I couldn't wait for her to finish it. So excited about the movie, and can't wait. Wonderful book, I was very inpressed.

This is a doomed venture. I am willing to bet they will not translate the spirit of the book to screen without leaving important parts of the story on the editing floor. Still I will be the first in line with my fiance in tow to see it.
