Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s wife, Mary Richardson Kennedy, was found dead this afternoon at her home in Bedford, New York. She was 52-years-old. Suicide may have been a factor in her tragic death as police said they were investigating a "possible unattended death" at Mary Richardson Kennedy's home. An employee of the Westchester Country medical examiner's office in New York — who spoke to press on the condition of anonymity — did not release information about Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s wife's death but confirmed her identity as the deceased person from the residence.
Public records indicate the home was owned by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. who is the son of former Senator Robert "Bobby" Kennedy — the brother of the late President John F. Kennedy. Both men were assassinated. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. married Mary Richardson in 1994. She was his second wife and they had four children together. Their oldest is Conor who is 18 years old and their youngest is Aiden Richardson who is just 11 years old.
Good Morning America reports Mary Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. were married for 16 years before he filed for divorce in 2010. A few days later, Mary Kennedy was arrested for drunk driving. No word yet if alcohol or depression was an issue in the days and months before her death.
ABC News reports Mary Kennedy's family released a statement to the media late Wednesday afternoon. "We deeply regret the death of our beloved sister Mary, whose radiant and creative spirit will be sorely missed by those who loved her," read the statement. "Our heart goes out to her children who she loved without reservation. We have no further comment at this time."
