Jon Hamm's Naughty Career Move

Mad Men's Jon Hamm started his career in a far seedier position than the leading man status he has now. Some actors turn to bartending to make ends meet. Hamm turned to dirty movies.

It's almost a dream come true: Tall, dark and handsome Jon Hamm has a naked, sweaty dirty movie past. Hearing this certainly got talk show host Anderson Cooper worked up into a lather when the Mad Men actor mentioned it during an interview -- but unfortunately it isn't as sordid as you might think.

Rather than "acting" in the films, Hamm explained, "I was a set dresser."

And it wasn't exactly porn -- or, at least not the really raunchy kind.

"Well not porn, no. There's a very [big] difference. There's a huge chasm between -- chasm's [a] terrible word to use. You don't really want to talk about chasms and porn. I guess the most politic [sic] term is sort of like Skinemax movies," he explained, making a comparison to Cinemax's late night weekend fare of showing-absolutely-everything-but-actual-penetration flicks.

In fact, he said, one could say the films were rather artsy, "sort of like soft focus, soft filtered. Tasteful."

Just kidding! "There was nothing tasteful about it. It was depressing," he corrected himself.

"There was a reason that I was hired to do that job and it wasn't because they needed somebody excellent in that position. If they were focusing on whether the ashtray was in the right place then someone else had done their job terribly," he said, hinting that he may have been used as a body double.

"So it was a couple of weeks and it was a pretty depressing way to make a couple hundred bucks a day. Yeah, it was a learning experience."

Mad Men is definitely a way better gig.
