About Home Front

Jolene Zarkades had a difficult childhood. As soon as she was old enough, she joined the military, and through them, found a new family. Now, Jolene is married to Michael and they have two wonderful daughters, but Jolene has never let go of the first group that truly embraced her. Up in the air, at the controls of the helicopter, life is focused and sharp. It's on the ground that things are much more muddled.

Michael doesn't understand Jolene's commitment to the military. Their marriage has been going through a rough patch since Michael's father's death and Jolene no longer knows how to connect with him. She pours herself into her family, but nothing seems to be enough. Then Jolene receives some shocking news: Her National Guard unit is being deployed to Iraq. All of a sudden, the gulf separating Jolene and Michael becomes an impassable chasm. Jolene must leave her family and friends, facing danger on a daily basis, and she doesn't know if she'll return.

After Jolene's departure, Michael must become father and mother to his two daughters, a role completely foreign to him. As he barely copes with his new duties, he begins to appreciate Jolene more and see her in an entirely new light. But has the break between Michael and Jolene become irreparable? Will Jolene ever be able to return home to the family that she so loves?

Kristin, In your book, Homefront, the section in the book where Jodi reads a book and has it video'd before she leaves for Iraq, they do that same thing in some local USO's I have volunteered at! That really made the story very realistic! Only sad thing about the story is that my son is in Afghanastan now, & I had trouble reading it, not because of you, but it's so hard!, Maureen Fehrenbach

Can't wait to participate. I'm a volunteer reviewer for Romancing-the-Book and sent in my review to them a few minutes ago. I finished reading it early this morning. Although I've loved all the books I've read by Kristin Hannah this was by far my favorite.
