Popstar to Prison Pal

Everyone's favorite California girl is heading to the slammer. Katy Perry is set to appear on a prison-centric episode of Fox's Raising Hope. Get ready to see the singer in a whole new light.

Katy Perry

Raising Hope's teenage dream is about to come true. Pop singer Katy Perry has landed a guest spot on the hit comedy.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Perry will appear in the March 6 episode, where she'll play an arresting character. She'll star as "Rikki, a prison attendant who claims to be an old buddy of Sabrina's (Shannon Woodward)."

Raising Hope creator Greg Garcia knew Perry was perfect for the part after discovering her and Woodward's off-screen connection. They're best friends!

"Shannon told me that her friend Katy was interested in doing an episode and I thought, why not? Let's do your friend Katy a favor," said Garcia.

"Then she came in and did a terrific job. And now people are telling me that Katy is also a singer. I sincerely hope that her appearance on the show helps her get her singing career off the ground."

Hilarious, Mr. Garcia. Hilarious.

So what does Perry have to say about her latest TV role?

"A couple of weeks ago, I was home, just toasting up a frozen chicken fillet when Shannon called me up and asked if I wanted to do something 'fun' for a change and try out a guest role on her TV show. I thought, sure, I have nothing else to do, and I like chillin' with my best friend. Greg was nice, but I hope he's not secretly sabotaging my potential future career by type-casting me in the role of just a looker, so that I would never be able to play anything more challenging."

This isn't the first acting gig Perry has tackled. She previously appeared on CBS' How I Met Your Mother, and 2011's The Smurfs, where she voiced Smurfette.
