Rainn Wilson apologizes for not-so-funny date rape joke

The Office Comedian's Offensive Joke

Rainn Wilson, who plays Dwight Schrute on NBC's The Office, tweeted an apology for his not-so-funny date-rape joke.

Rainn Wilson apologizes for bad tweet

Some topics are simply off limits when it comes to comedy — a lesson Rainn Wilson learned earlier this morning. The actor on The Office has apologized for his blunder and admitted his bad taste in a tweet he sent last night.

"If I were ever date raped I would want it to be to 'Whole Lotta Love' by Led Zeppelin," joked Wilson last night via Twitter. Shockingly, his Twitter account wasn't hacked. The writer and actor, who plays Dwight Schrute on The Office, has close to three million followers on the social media platform and is usually tweeting thoughtful insights between jokes that are actually funny and not the least bit offensive.

After causing a minor uprise online, Wilson deleted the controversial tweet and took to his Twitter account to issue an authentic apology:

"Apparently my poorly conceived date-rape tweet upset a lot of folks. Not a good topic to joke about. Sorry & won't do that again."

Since then, Wilson has collected replies from fans, appreciating the actor for taking responsibility for his offensive remark — and for doing so with a quick response. Thankfully, no Twitter war resulted from his comments either, unlike Chris Brown and his immature insults published throughout the past week, since his return to the Grammy Awards stage. His "Hate all you want!" tweets remain live for both fans and foes to see.
