As a Project Runway Season one favorite, Austin Scarlett wowed both judges and viewers right out of the gate when his model strutted a cornhusk dress down the catwalk on the very first episode of the series. With his flair for the glamorous and hilarious facial expressions, it's no surprise he's making a comeback on Project Runway All Stars.
Born in Cottage Grove, Oregon, Scarlett studied fashion design with an emphasis in evening wear at The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. After graduation, he worked as an assistant costume archivist at The Museum at FIT, preserving their collection of haute couture and library of textiles.
In 2004, at the age of 22, Scarlett snagged a coveted spot on the first season of Project Runway, hosted by fashion icon Heidi Klum, and the rest is fashion history. He was quickly a favorite among the judges for his uncanny ability to create stunning, glamorous pieces while working on a tight deadline with unique creative constraints.
Since Project Runway, Scarlett has been busy leaving his mark on the fashion industry, producing collections under his own name and working as the Creative Director for bridal-design house Amsale's Kenneth Pool collection.
He even made a brief comeback to reality television in 2010 with the series On the Road with Austin & Santino, where he partnered with fellow Project Runway alum Santino Rice on a cross-country quest to create couture from local resources.
Since he narrowly missed placing in the top three of season one, we have a feeling Scarlett is hungry to prove himself on Project Runway All Stars. He's known for his glamorous, dramatic design and personal style and we can't wait to see what he creates.
So far, Scarlett's impressed the judges and has one challenge win under his belt. Will he keep it up to come out on top? Make sure to tune in every Thursday night on Lifetime to find out.
