Au revoir, France! David Beckham turned down a place on Paris' Saint-Germain's soccer club to stay with the Los Angeles Galaxy, the French club confirmed Tuesday.
Saint-Germain's president Nasser al-Khelaifi is disappointed with Beckham's decision to stay stateside. The reason? His family, including wife Victoria Beckham, wants to stay in California.
"It's a shame," Saint-Germain's sporting director Leonardo said after the announcement. "But the well-being of his family in Los Angeles and the desire to not change everything in his life weighed heavily."
Beckham's agent first confirmed the talks with Paris a few days ago, but he wouldn't elaborate on the negotiations.
"There is no agreement with PSG at the moment, an offer does not equate to a contract," the agent said, according to the Los Angeles Times.
"We continue to hold talks with a certain number of clubs, including PSG and LA Galaxy, but no decision has been made and we are waiting for one now."
Now, it looks like Becks is poised to sign another multi-million dollar contract with the Galaxy, though even he wasn't sure what he was going to do when asked about it before the holidays.
"I've had other offers, which is nice, especially when you're 36," the dad of baby Harper told Australia's Daily Telegraph in early December, "some people would say towards the end of my career. I've got options and offers but I'm still a Galaxy player right now and that may not change."
It sounds like Beckham's heart was always in Los Angeles.
"It's been such a great experience on and off the field," he added. "Off the field I accomplished everything I wanted to accomplish. I wanted to be part of a league that was growing, I wanted to see the interest grow and we've seen that in the last five years."
It sounds like he proved what we all knew was true: Victoria wears the pants in the Beckham family!
